World-Wide-Mind
w2mind.computing.dcu.ie -> tools -> client
The Java Client allows the user select a world service and a mind service, and control a run involving both these entities.
You can download the client here.
The client was developed using Java version 1.5.0_13, and may not work correctly with earlier versions. It makes use of the Xerces XML parser, some of whose classes are included in the client's Java archive.
In order to run the client you can:
Double click on the downloaded JAR file, in most version of Windows.
Run the following command from the shell/DOS prompt in the directory that the JAR file is located
java -jar client.jar
When you run the client you should be presented with a the screen shown below:

From here you can do two things:
Send a single message to any service
Start a run
To send a single message to a service, you should type the SOML message in the Request box, and type the URL into the URL box. Then click send. The response will be displayed in the Response box.
To start a run, you should click on the New Run button. This will produce the screen shown below.
You should enter the URL of the World Service and Mind Service into the appropriate box. You should also enter your own name, and either your e-mail address or website URL into the appropriate boxes. Once you click select a run will be started in both services and you will be returned to the main screen.
You can then click Go! in order to start the main part of the run. At any point during the run you can press the Pause button to temporarily halt the run. Clicking End will end the run in both services, at which point you can start a new run.
If you click on the Options button you will be presented with the screen shown below.
If you check the check box, you can enter a directory name. All messages sent and recevied during each of your runs will be saved out to files in this directory.
Additional functionality will be added in the future.
